Tiny Tuesday – “Birth of Evil”

12 Jun

Bang! Another nail driven home. A whirr as screws tighten the seal of steel. Servomotors hum, the hiss of escaping steam making a racket in the shed.

Laughter, calm, then increasingly manic, bounces off the walls, fills the air. A tear, hot and mad, runs down a sweatstained cheek.

Outside, the noise dulls, hidden behind the shouts of children. Birds chirp and swingsets squeak, crying out for oil.

Deft preteen hands manipulate controls. The play structure explodes in a shower of sparks and sand, plastic buckets flung skyward.

Nothing moves.

The robot emerges from the shed, and all hell breaks loose.
